Droid Razr HD/Maxx Recovery
TweetSo you have your shiny new Dev Razr HD/Maxx and you unlocked it and all you need now is root. Before you get to far in to messing with your phone the first thing you should do is install a new recovery. You can use either ClockworkMod Recovery or the new TWRP recovery. For your flashing pleasure I have included both below with the proper commands.
Step 1: Download the fastboot zip (command line stuff) (Windows, Linux, Mac)
Step 2: Download a recovery
TWRP : Download now
Step 3: Place the recovery and the fastboot files for your system in the same folder.
Enter into a command terminal and type the command below
For TWRP : fastboot flash recovery twrp-hdrecovery.img
You have just finished installing a new recovery, now make a backup and root.
Step 4: Enter recovery buy holding the volume up and pressing the power button for 1 second.
Step 5: Make a backup before doing anything else.
Step 6: install the root package using the install a zip option.
Rootzipfile: Download Now
You are now rooted, go have fun and play safely.
Is there a Developer Edition of the Droid Razr Maxx HD?
Not that I saw. I wanted the Maxx hd. But since I wanted maxx hd, and dev edition was available, I had to get the locked one. It’s actually a fantastic device.

My bootloader is locked. Running rooted JB 4.1.1 SFR France leak. Device is XT925.
Hey Mr. Pierce…got my razr hd developer edition yesterday. i had a question..when you got your razr m dev edition was the bootloader already unlocked? when i put in my device id from the sdk it told me my device is not unlockable so they wont send me the unlock code. i was on the phone with moto support for an hour and all they can tell me is to goto the motodev forums. so right now im waiting on them. thanks

Troy I had the same issue I went thru the same thing however I believe it was a site issue you must speak to level 4 the peeps you are talking with are outsourced and no nothing level 4 took care of me in 10 minutes.

Root file did not work for me… its getting flashed fine but it says that there is no such binary on the phone and such app can not install it… is is it fine to use root file from RAZR m..
I currently have a retail M and love the phone. I want to purchase a Dev Razr M or an HD. Will the Rom development be better on the HD or the M?
You need to set permissions on /system/xbin/su….
the easiest way is to simply modify the updater script of the root.zip. Add “set_perm(0, 0, 06755, “/system/xbin/su”);” without quotes of coarse just below the package extract. Reflash and you’ll be set!
